Moai Meatballs
Moai Meatballs are a traditional dish from Pascuense (Easter Island) cuisine, featuring flavorful meatballs in a savory sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup grated onion
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, grated onion, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into meatballs.
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, then remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion and garlic until softened. Add the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, sugar, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
- Serve the Moai Meatballs hot, with the sauce spooned over the top.
