Ingredients

  • 1 package of seitan (16 oz)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and five-spice powder.
  2. Cut the seitan into bite-sized pieces and add them to the marinade. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
  3. In a large skillet, bring the vegetable broth to a simmer. Add the marinated seitan and simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Add the slurry to the skillet and stir until the sauce thickens.
  5. Serve the mock duck over rice and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
