Moila Curry (fish Roe Curry)
Moila Curry, also known as Fish Roe Curry, is a traditional dish from Mangalurean Catholic Cuisine. This flavorful and spicy curry is made with fish roe and a blend of aromatic spices, making it a popular dish in coastal Karnataka, India.
Ingredients
- 500g fish roe
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 4-5 curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes. Then, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
- Now, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the fish roe and coconut milk. Mix gently and cook for 5-7 minutes on low heat.
- Garnish with curry leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or appam.
