Mok Pa (grilled Fish With Herbs)
Mok Pa is a traditional Lao dish of grilled fish marinated in a flavorful herb mixture. This dish is popular for its fragrant and aromatic flavors, making it a staple in Lao cuisine.
Ingredients
- 1 whole fish, cleaned and scaled
- 3 lemongrass stalks, finely chopped
- 4 kaffir lime leaves, thinly sliced
- 1 bunch of cilantro, chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 shallots, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- In a bowl, mix lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, cilantro, garlic, shallots, fish sauce, soy sauce, and vegetable oil to make the marinade.
- Score the fish on both sides and season with salt and pepper.
- Stuff the fish cavity with some of the marinade and spread the remaining marinade over the fish.
- Grill the fish for about 7-8 minutes on each side, or until cooked through.
- Once done, remove from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
