Mongolian Beef Momo (Buryat: Момо)

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 package dumpling wrappers
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, onion, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Place a small spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of a dumpling wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, then fold the wrapper in half and press the edges together to seal.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place the dumplings in the skillet in a single layer and cook until the bottoms are golden brown, about 2 minutes.
  4. Pour the water into the skillet and cover with a lid. Allow the dumplings to steam until the filling is cooked through and the wrappers are tender, about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Remove the lid and continue cooking until any remaining water has evaporated and the bottoms of the dumplings are crispy.
  6. Serve the Buryat Момо hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
