Mongolian Beef Udon (Mōkōrōn Gyū Udon)
Mōkōrōn Gyū Udon, also known as Mongolian Beef Udon, is a popular dish in Japanese Chinese cuisine. This savory and satisfying noodle dish features tender slices of beef, stir-fried with vegetables and udon noodles in a delicious savory sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
- 8 oz udon noodles
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, and water to make the sauce.
- Cook the udon noodles according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the sliced flank steak and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and minced garlic. Stir-fry for 2 minutes.
- Return the beef to the skillet, then pour the sauce over the beef and vegetables. Add the cooked udon noodles and red pepper flakes. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through and well combined.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot.
