Mongolian Yak Stir-Fry (Buryat: Гоёмс)
Buryat cuisine is known for its hearty and flavorful dishes, often featuring ingredients unique to the region. One such dish is the traditional Buryat stir-fry, known as Гоёмс (Goyoms), which highlights the rich and tender meat of the Mongolian yak.
Ingredients
- 500g Mongolian yak meat, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 bell peppers, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
- Add the sliced yak meat and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- Heat the remaining tablespoon of oil in the same skillet. Add the sliced onion, bell peppers, and minced garlic. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Return the cooked yak meat to the skillet. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until everything is well combined and heated through.
- Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish. Serve the Buryat Гоёмс hot with steamed rice or noodles.
