Mongolian Yak Tacos (Buryat: Гоёмс)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb yak meat, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 8 small tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, and sauté until softened.
  2. Add the sliced yak meat to the skillet, and cook until browned on all sides.
  3. Season the meat with cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and let it cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. Warm the tortillas in a separate skillet or in the oven.
  5. Assemble the tacos by placing a spoonful of the yak meat mixture on each tortilla, then top with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro.
  6. Serve the Mongolian Yak Tacos hot and enjoy!
