Moravské švestkové knedlíky, or Moravian Plum Dumplings, are a traditional Czech dish that combines sweet plums with a potato-based dough, creating a delightful and comforting treat. Ingredients
- 500g potatoes, peeled and diced
- 200g all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- Pinch of salt
- 12 ripe plums, pitted
- 100g breadcrumbs
- 50g butter
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
Instructions
- Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, then drain and mash them.
- In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flour, egg, and salt to form a dough.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and flatten each portion into a disc.
- Place a pitted plum in the center of each disc and wrap the dough around it, forming a smooth ball.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and carefully drop the dumplings into the water.
- Cook the dumplings for about 10 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
- In a separate pan, melt the butter and add the breadcrumbs, toasting them until golden brown.
- Remove the dumplings from the water and roll them in the toasted breadcrumbs.
- Sprinkle the dumplings with powdered sugar before serving.
