Māori Hangi-inspired Beef Stir-Fry (Kōpī Whakarite)
Kōpī Whakarite is a delicious Māori Hangi-inspired beef stir-fry that brings the flavors of New Zealand to your kitchen. This recipe combines tender beef, fresh vegetables, and aromatic spices to create a hearty and satisfying dish.
Ingredients
- 500g beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- 2 cups mixed vegetables (bell peppers, carrots, broccoli)
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Set aside.
- Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove beef from the wok and set aside.
- Add onion and garlic to the wok and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes. Add mixed vegetables and continue stir-frying for another 3-4 minutes.
- Return the beef to the wok, pour in the beef broth, and add the sauce mixture. Stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.
