Mozambican Beef Samosas (Samosas de Carne Moçambicana)
Samosas de Carne Moçambicana, or Mozambican Beef Samosas, are a popular snack in Mozambique. These savory pastries are filled with spiced beef and then fried to crispy perfection. They are perfect for serving as an appetizer or as part of a meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12 sheets of samosa pastry (or phyllo dough)
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until softened.
- Stir in the cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool.
- Take one sheet of samosa pastry and place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center. Fold the pastry over the filling to form a triangle, then seal the edges with a little water.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the samosas in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
