Muj Gaad (मुज गाद)

मुज गाद (Muj Gaad) is a traditional Kashmiri fish curry that is rich in flavors and spices. This dish is a popular delicacy in Kashmiri cuisine and is often served with steamed rice or naan.

Muj Gaad (मुज गाद)

Ingredients

  • 500g fish (preferably trout or carp)
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp fennel powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 4-5 green chilies, slit
  • 1/4 cup mustard oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish with turmeric powder and salt. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat mustard oil in a pan and fry the fish until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Now, add the tomato puree, red chili powder, fennel powder, cumin powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates.
  6. Add 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil. Then, add the fried fish and green chilies. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  8. मुज गाद (Muj Gaad) is ready to be served with steamed rice or naan.
