Multani Shorba (ملتانی شوربا)
ملتانی شوربا (Multani Shorba) is a traditional Muhajir Cuisine soup that is packed with flavors and spices. This hearty and comforting soup is perfect for a cozy night in or as a starter for a special meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup red lentils, washed and drained
- 4 cups water
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 green chili, chopped
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- 1 tsp garlic paste
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, combine the red lentils and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the lentils are soft.
- In a separate pan, heat the oil and add the cumin seeds. Once they start to sizzle, add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ginger paste, garlic paste, green chili, and tomatoes to the pan. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates from the mixture.
- Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt to the pan. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
- Pour the cooked lentils into the pan with the spice mixture. Stir well and let the soup simmer for 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
