Munich Style Pork Roast (Münchner Schweinebraten)
Münchner Schweinebraten, or Munich Style Pork Roast, is a classic Bavarian dish that is hearty, flavorful, and perfect for a cozy family dinner or a festive gathering.
Ingredients
- 1.5 kg pork shoulder
- 2 onions, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp caraway seeds
- 2 tbsp sweet paprika
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 500 ml beef broth
- 250 ml dark beer
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F).
- Score the pork shoulder and rub it with salt, pepper, caraway seeds, and sweet paprika.
- Place the sliced onions and minced garlic in a roasting pan and place the seasoned pork on top.
- Pour the beef broth and dark beer into the pan.
- Cover the roasting pan with foil and roast in the oven for 2 hours.
- Remove the foil and continue roasting for another hour, basting the pork occasionally, until the meat is tender and the top is crispy.
- Let the pork rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving with the pan juices and onions.
