Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs (700g) chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) yogurt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cloves
  • 4 green cardamom pods
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, cloves, and cardamom pods. Sauté until fragrant.
  2. Add onions and cook until golden brown.
  3. Add ginger and garlic, and cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
  5. Stir in the tomato puree, turmeric, coriander, cumin, and red chili powders. Cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Whisk the yogurt and add it to the curry. Cook for another 10 minutes.
  7. Adjust the seasoning and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
