Murgh Kari is a popular Saudi Arabian chicken and potato curry that is rich in flavor and spices. This hearty dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a gathering with friends.
Ingredients
- 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes, yogurt, and all the spices. Mix well and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the cubed potatoes and enough water to cover the chicken and potatoes. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes until the chicken and potatoes are cooked through.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with steamed rice or naan.
