Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
  3. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
  4. Stir in the chopped tomatoes, yogurt, and all the spices. Mix well and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Add the cubed potatoes and enough water to cover the chicken and potatoes. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes until the chicken and potatoes are cooked through.
  6. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with steamed rice or naan.
