Murgh Makhani (creamy Butter Chicken)
Murgh Makhani, also known as Creamy Butter Chicken, is a popular Indian dish known for its rich and flavorful sauce. This recipe combines tender chicken with a creamy tomato-based sauce, making it a comforting and indulgent meal.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs (700g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup (240ml) plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons garam masala
- 1 can (14 oz/400g) tomato puree
- 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons honey
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the chicken, yogurt, ginger garlic paste, ground cumin, ground coriander, cayenne pepper, turmeric, ground cardamom, ground cinnamon, and salt. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- In a large pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened.
- Add the marinated chicken to the pan and cook until the chicken is no longer pink.
- Sprinkle in the garam masala and pour in the tomato puree. Simmer for 15 minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream and honey. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
