Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 3-4 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 3-4 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
  2. Add onions, garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
  3. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are browned.
  5. Pour in the vinegar and season with salt. Stir well.
  6. Add water, cover the pan, and let the chicken cook for 20-25 minutes.
  7. Once the chicken is tender and the sauce has thickened, remove from heat.
  8. Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
