Ingredients

  • 500g chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 onion, finely sliced
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 4-5 cups water
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat mustard oil in a pan and add the sliced onion. Sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add the chicken pieces, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the chicken is lightly browned.
  3. Next, add the chopped tomatoes, grated ginger, and green chilies. Cook for a few minutes until the tomatoes soften.
  4. Pour in the water and bring the stew to a boil. Then, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 30-35 minutes until the chicken is tender.
  5. Once the chicken is cooked, add the lemon juice and give it a gentle stir.
  6. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
