Murgir Tenga (assamese Style Chicken Stew)
Murgir Tenga is a traditional Assamese chicken stew that is known for its tangy and refreshing flavor. This dish is a perfect blend of tender chicken pieces, aromatic spices, and the sourness of tomatoes and lemon, making it a delightful addition to any meal.
Ingredients
- 500g chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 onion, finely sliced
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 4-5 cups water
- 2 tbsp mustard oil
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 lemon, juiced
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat mustard oil in a pan and add the sliced onion. Sauté until golden brown.
- Add the chicken pieces, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the chicken is lightly browned.
- Next, add the chopped tomatoes, grated ginger, and green chilies. Cook for a few minutes until the tomatoes soften.
- Pour in the water and bring the stew to a boil. Then, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 30-35 minutes until the chicken is tender.
- Once the chicken is cooked, add the lemon juice and give it a gentle stir.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
