Musaka is a traditional Montenegrin dish that is similar to moussaka, with layers of potatoes, ground meat, and vegetables, topped with a creamy sauce and baked to perfection.

Musaka (montenegrin Style Moussaka)

Ingredients

  • 3 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 eggplant, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and cook until softened.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Add the red bell pepper, eggplant, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. In a greased baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes on the bottom.
  6. Spread the meat and vegetable mixture over the potatoes.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the sour cream and grated Parmesan cheese. Spread this mixture over the meat and vegetable layer.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
