Mushroom and Potato Dumplings (Seene- ja kartulipallid)

Seene- ja kartulipallid, or Mushroom and Potato Dumplings, are a traditional Estonian dish that is both comforting and delicious. These dumplings are perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion.

Mushroom and Potato Dumplings (Seene- ja kartulipallid)

Ingredients

  • 500g potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 200g mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • 100g bread crumbs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Boil the potatoes until tender, then mash them in a large bowl.
  2. In a pan, sauté the mushrooms and onions in butter until soft.
  3. Add the sautéed mushrooms and onions to the mashed potatoes, then mix in the eggs and bread crumbs. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Form the mixture into small balls and place them on a floured surface.
  5. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, then carefully drop the dumplings into the water.
  6. Cook the dumplings for about 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
  7. Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and serve hot.
