Mushroom and Potato Gratin (Sēņu un kartupeļu gratēns)

Mushroom and Potato Gratin (Sēņu un kartupeļu gratēns)

Ingredients

  • 500g potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 300g mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 200ml heavy cream
  • 100g grated cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the dish.
  4. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté until softened.
  5. Add the mushrooms to the skillet and cook until they release their liquid and become golden brown.
  6. Season the mushroom mixture with salt and pepper, then spread it over the layer of potatoes in the baking dish.
  7. Layer the remaining sliced potatoes on top of the mushroom mixture.
  8. Pour the heavy cream over the potatoes, ensuring it's evenly distributed.
  9. Sprinkle the grated cheese over the top.
  10. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  11. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
