Mushroom Manchurian (chilli Mushroom)
Mushroom Manchurian, also known as Chilli Mushroom, is a popular Indo-Chinese dish that combines the earthy flavors of mushrooms with the spicy and tangy Manchurian sauce. It's a delicious appetizer or side dish that is sure to be a hit at any gathering.
Ingredients
- 250g button mushrooms, cleaned and halved
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornflour
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon chili sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon cornflour mixed with 2 tablespoons water
- Spring onions for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix all-purpose flour, cornflour, ginger-garlic paste, soy sauce, red chili powder, and salt. Add water to make a smooth batter.
- Heat oil in a deep pan. Dip the mushroom pieces in the batter and deep fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a wok or pan. Add the chopped onions, bell peppers, and green chilies. Stir-fry on high heat for 2-3 minutes.
- Add tomato ketchup, soy sauce, chili sauce, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil.
- Stir in the cornflour-water mixture and cook until the sauce thickens.
- Add the fried mushrooms to the sauce and toss to coat them evenly.
- Garnish with chopped spring onions and serve hot.
