Mushroom Manchurian, also known as Chilli Mushroom, is a popular Indo-Chinese dish that combines the earthy flavors of mushrooms with the spicy and tangy Manchurian sauce. It's a delicious appetizer or side dish that is sure to be a hit at any gathering.

Mushroom Manchurian (chilli Mushroom)

Ingredients

  • 250g button mushrooms, cleaned and halved
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornflour
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit
  • 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon cornflour mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • Spring onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix all-purpose flour, cornflour, ginger-garlic paste, soy sauce, red chili powder, and salt. Add water to make a smooth batter.
  2. Heat oil in a deep pan. Dip the mushroom pieces in the batter and deep fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
  3. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a wok or pan. Add the chopped onions, bell peppers, and green chilies. Stir-fry on high heat for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add tomato ketchup, soy sauce, chili sauce, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil.
  5. Stir in the cornflour-water mixture and cook until the sauce thickens.
  6. Add the fried mushrooms to the sauce and toss to coat them evenly.
  7. Garnish with chopped spring onions and serve hot.
