Mussels Roast (kallumakkaya Roast)
Mussels Roast, also known as Kallumakkaya Roast, is a popular seafood dish from the coastal state of Kerala in India. This flavorful and aromatic dish is made with fresh mussels and a blend of traditional Indian spices.
Ingredients
- 1 kg fresh mussels, cleaned and debearded
- 3 onions, finely sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 inch ginger, julienned
- 5-6 garlic cloves, minced
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 tablespoons red chili powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
Instructions
- Heat coconut oil in a pan and add sliced onions. Sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Add cleaned mussels, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.
- Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.
- Garnish with curry leaves and remove from heat.
