Mutta Curry (chettinad Egg Curry)
Mutta Curry, also known as Chettinad Egg Curry, is a popular dish from the Chettinad region of Tamil Nadu, India. This flavorful and aromatic curry is made with hard-boiled eggs simmered in a rich and spicy coconut-based gravy.
Ingredients
- 6 hard-boiled eggs
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add fennel seeds. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Stir in ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute.
- Add tomato puree, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates.
- Grind the grated coconut with a little water to make a smooth paste.
- Add the coconut paste to the pan and cook for a few minutes.
- Add garam masala and mix well.
- Gently add the hard-boiled eggs to the gravy and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with rice or roti.
