Mutta Curry (spicy Coorgi Egg Curry)
Mutta Curry, also known as Spicy Coorgi Egg Curry, is a traditional dish from the Kodava Cuisine of Coorg, Karnataka. This flavorful and spicy egg curry is a popular dish in the region and is best enjoyed with steamed rice or traditional rice rotis.
Ingredients
- 6 hard-boiled eggs, peeled
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/4 cup coconut milk
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoons red chili powder
- 1 tablespoon coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves. Sauté until the seeds crackle.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Stir in the tomato puree, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates from the masala.
- Pour in the coconut milk and water. Bring the curry to a gentle boil.
- Gently add the hard-boiled eggs to the curry and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Once the curry reaches the desired consistency, remove from heat and serve hot.
