Mutta Curry (spicy Egg Curry)
Mutta Curry, also known as Spicy Egg Curry, is a popular dish in Tamil Cuisine. This flavorful and spicy curry is made with hard-boiled eggs cooked in a rich and aromatic gravy, perfect to be enjoyed with steamed rice or roti.
Ingredients
- 6 hard-boiled eggs
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add curry leaves, green chilies, and onions. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
- Now, add red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
- Pour in the coconut milk and bring the gravy to a gentle boil.
- Add the hard-boiled eggs and simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
