Mutta Curry (sri Lankan Cabbage Curry)
Mutta Curry, also known as Sri Lankan Cabbage Curry, is a delicious and aromatic dish that is a staple in Sri Lankan cuisine. This vegetarian curry is made with cabbage, potatoes, and a blend of fragrant spices, creating a flavorful and comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 1 small cabbage, shredded
- 2 potatoes, diced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, sliced
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1/4 cup coconut milk
- 2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter) or oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat ghee in a large pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Once they start to splutter, add the chopped onion and green chilies. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
- Add the diced potatoes and shredded cabbage to the pan. Stir well to combine with the onions and spices.
- Season with turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix thoroughly and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Pour in the coconut milk and stir to coat the vegetables. Cover the pan and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
- Sprinkle garam masala over the curry and mix gently. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
