Mutta Roast (chettinad Egg Roast)
Mutta Roast, also known as Chettinad Egg Roast, is a flavorful and spicy egg dish from the Chettinad region of Tamil Nadu, India. This dish is a perfect blend of aromatic spices and rich flavors, making it a popular choice for breakfast or as a side dish for rice or roti.
Ingredients
- 4 hard-boiled eggs
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- Curry leaves
- Coriander leaves for garnish
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté until the raw smell disappears.
- Add chopped tomatoes, green chilies, and curry leaves. Cook until the tomatoes turn mushy.
- Now add red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes.
- Peel the hard-boiled eggs and make slits on them. Add the eggs to the masala and gently coat them with the mixture.
- Cook for 5-7 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the masala coats the eggs well.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
