Mutton Kari (spicy Mutton Curry)

Ingredients

  • 500g mutton, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 cardamom pods
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 tbsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, and cardamom pods. Sauté until fragrant.
  2. Add chopped onions and green chilies. Cook until onions are golden brown.
  3. Stir in ginger-garlic paste and cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Add mutton pieces and cook until they are browned.
  5. Stir in tomato puree, turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Pour in yogurt and coconut milk. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes or until the mutton is tender.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
