Mutton Sukka (goan Style Mutton Curry)

Ingredients

  • 500g mutton, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 4-5 dry red chilies
  • 1-inch ginger, chopped
  • 5-6 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a pan, dry roast the grated coconut, dry red chilies, cumin seeds, and coriander seeds until fragrant. Allow it to cool and then grind into a fine paste with ginger and garlic.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
  3. Add the ground masala paste and cook for a few minutes.
  4. Add the chopped tomato, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates.
  5. Add the mutton pieces and cook on medium heat until the mutton is tender and the masala coats the pieces well.
  6. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  7. Serve hot with steamed rice or Goan pav.
