Muya Bai (spicy Chicken Curry)
Muya Bai is a traditional Tripuri dish that features tender chicken cooked in a spicy and flavorful curry. This dish is a staple in Tripuri cuisine and is perfect for those who enjoy a bit of heat in their meals.
Ingredients
- 500g chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 2 tbsp mustard oil
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat mustard oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, and cook for a few minutes.
- Next, add the chicken pieces and cook until they are browned on all sides.
- Stir in the turmeric, red chili, cumin, and coriander powders, and cook for a minute.
- Pour in the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates from the masala.
- Add the coconut milk and salt, and simmer until the chicken is cooked through and the curry thickens.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or flatbread.
