Namibian Lamb Bobotie is a traditional dish with a unique blend of flavors, combining savory minced lamb with aromatic spices and topped with a creamy egg custard. Served with fragrant yellow rice, this dish is a true delight for the senses.
Ingredients
- 500g minced lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 slices white bread, soaked in milk
- 2 tbsp curry powder
- 1 tbsp apricot jam
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 3 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups cooked yellow rice
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a large skillet, brown the minced lamb over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook until the onion is soft.
- Stir in the curry powder, apricot jam, vinegar, and raisins. Season with salt and pepper.
- Transfer the lamb mixture to a baking dish and spread it evenly.
- In a bowl, beat 2 eggs and pour over the lamb mixture. Arrange the soaked bread on top.
- Beat the remaining egg and pour it over the bread. Sprinkle with slivered almonds.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the custard is set and golden brown.
- Serve the Namibian Lamb Bobotie with yellow rice.
