Nandu Curry (coorgi Style Crab Curry)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg fresh crab, cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions, grated ginger, and minced garlic. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
  3. Stir in the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates from the mixture.
  4. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  5. Now add the cleaned crab pieces and coat them with the spice mixture.
  6. Pour in the coconut milk and add slit green chilies. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the crab is cooked through.
  7. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
