Nandu Curry (crab Curry)
Nandu Curry, also known as Crab Curry, is a popular dish in Mangalurean Catholic Cuisine. This flavorful curry is made with tender crab meat and a blend of aromatic spices, creating a delicious and comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 1 kg fresh crab, cleaned and cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoons red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes until the raw smell disappears.
- Now, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates from the mixture.
- Stir in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Cook for a couple of minutes.
- Add the crab pieces to the pan and mix well with the masala. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Pour in the coconut milk and season with salt. Cover the pan and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the crab is cooked through.
- Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
