Nandu Curry (spicy Jaffna Crab Curry)

Ingredients

  • 1 kg fresh crab, cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 cup thick coconut milk
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Fresh curry leaves

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pan and sauté the onions until golden brown.
  2. Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, and sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Stir in the tomatoes, turmeric powder, chili powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates.
  4. Add the crab pieces and mix well to coat them with the spice mixture.
  5. Pour in the thick coconut milk and season with salt. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until the crab is cooked through.
  6. Garnish with fresh curry leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
