Nandu Masala (crab Masala)
Nandu Masala, also known as Crab Masala, is a popular dish in Mangalurean Catholic Cuisine. This spicy and flavorful crab curry is a perfect accompaniment to steamed rice or neer dosa.
Ingredients
- 1 kg crab, cleaned and washed
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- Few curry leaves
- 2 green chilies, slit
- Coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté the onions until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
- Now, add the tomato puree, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates.
- Add the crab pieces and mix well. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Pour in the coconut milk, garam masala, green chilies, and curry leaves. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the crab is cooked and the gravy thickens.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or neer dosa.
