Nariyal Chutney (creamy Coconut Chutney)
Nariyal Chutney, also known as Creamy Coconut Chutney, is a popular South Indian condiment that pairs perfectly with dosa, idli, vada, and other savory snacks. This chutney is made with fresh coconut, green chilies, and a few other ingredients to create a creamy and flavorful accompaniment.
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh grated coconut
- 2-3 green chilies
- 1/2 inch ginger, chopped
- 1/4 cup roasted chana dal (split chickpeas)
- 1/2 cup water
- Salt to taste
- For tempering:
- 1 tsp oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal (split black gram)
- 1-2 dried red chilies
- A few curry leaves
Instructions
- In a blender, combine the fresh grated coconut, green chilies, ginger, roasted chana dal, water, and salt. Blend until smooth.
- Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl.
- For tempering, heat oil in a small pan. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, dried red chilies, and curry leaves. Once the mustard seeds start to splutter and the dal turns golden, pour the tempering over the chutney.
- Stir gently to combine the tempering with the chutney.
