Nasi Goreng (surinamese Fried Rice)
Nasi Goreng is a popular dish in Surinamese cuisine, featuring flavorful fried rice mixed with a variety of ingredients.
Ingredients
- 3 cups cooked white rice
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup diced chicken or tofu
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until fragrant.
- Add the diced red bell pepper and diced chicken or tofu, and cook until the protein is fully cooked.
- Push the ingredients to one side of the pan and pour the beaten eggs into the other side. Scramble the eggs until cooked, then mix with the rest of the ingredients.
- Add the cooked rice to the pan, along with the soy sauce, ground coriander, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
- Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice is heated through and slightly crispy.
- Remove from heat and serve hot.
