Nasi Goreng (surinamese Nasi Goreng)
Nasi Goreng is a popular Surinamese fried rice dish that is full of flavor and a perfect way to use up leftover rice. This recipe is a delicious combination of savory and aromatic ingredients that will surely satisfy your taste buds.
Ingredients
- 4 cups cooked white rice, preferably day-old
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1 cup green beans, chopped
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 1 teaspoon shrimp paste (trassi)
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the beaten eggs and scramble until just set. Remove from the wok and set aside.
- Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil in the same wok. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until fragrant.
- Add the diced bell pepper, carrots, and green beans. Stir-fry for a few minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender.
- Push the vegetables to the side of the wok and add the cooked rice to the center. Stir-fry the rice for a few minutes to heat it through.
- Return the scrambled eggs to the wok and mix with the rice and vegetables.
- Add the soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, shrimp paste, ground coriander, ground cumin, and chili powder. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Continue to stir-fry for a few more minutes until everything is heated through and well combined.
- Remove from heat and serve the Nasi Goreng hot. Enjoy!
