Ingredients

  • 500g beef, cut into cubes
  • 2 stalks lemongrass, bruised
  • 5 kaffir lime leaves
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 4 tablespoons rawon paste
  • 2 teaspoons tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 liters water
  • 4 cups steamed rice

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, bring water to a boil.
  2. Add the beef, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and bay leaves. Simmer for 1.5 hours until the beef is tender.
  3. Stir in the rawon paste, tamarind paste, salt, and sugar. Simmer for another 30 minutes.
  4. Divide the steamed rice into serving bowls and ladle the hot rawon soup over the rice.
