Natsiq Jerky (seal Jerky)

Natsiq Jerky, also known as Seal Jerky, is a traditional Chukchi Cuisine delicacy that is rich in flavor and high in protein. This recipe will guide you through the process of making your own Natsiq Jerky at home.

Natsiq Jerky (seal Jerky)

Ingredients

  • 1 pound seal meat, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine soy sauce, honey, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper in a bowl to make the marinade.
  2. Add the thinly sliced seal meat to the marinade, ensuring it is fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for 4-6 hours, or overnight for best results.
  3. Preheat the dehydrator to 160°F (70°C).
  4. Remove the marinated seal meat from the refrigerator and pat dry with paper towels to remove excess marinade.
  5. Place the seal meat slices on the dehydrator trays, leaving space between each slice for air circulation.
  6. Dehydrate the seal meat for 4-6 hours, or until it reaches your desired level of dryness and chewiness.
  7. Once the Natsiq Jerky is ready, allow it to cool before storing in an airtight container.
