Nellore Fish Curry (nellore Chepala Pulusu)
Nellore Fish Curry, also known as Nellore Chepala Pulusu, is a popular dish from the Telugu Cuisine. This tangy and spicy fish curry is a perfect blend of flavors and is a must-try for seafood lovers.
Ingredients
- 500g fish (preferably rohu or catla)
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 3-4 green chilies, slit
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp red chili powder
- 1 tbsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1/4 cup tamarind pulp
- Salt to taste
- 3 tbsp oil
- Coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Marinate the fish with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside for 15 minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes. Then, add green chilies, curry leaves, and chopped tomatoes. Cook until the tomatoes turn mushy.
- Now, add red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add tamarind pulp and 2 cups of water. Bring it to a boil.
- Gently slide in the marinated fish pieces. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes on medium heat.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
