Ngari Aloo Curry (naga Style Smoked Fish Curry)
Ngari Aloo Curry is a traditional Naga style smoked fish curry that is bursting with flavors. This dish is a popular delicacy in the North East Indian Cuisine, known for its rich and aromatic taste.
Ingredients
- 200g Ngari (smoked fish)
- 4 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, pureed
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2 tablespoons mustard oil
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat mustard oil in a pan and add fenugreek seeds and mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, sauté for 2 minutes.
- Add tomato puree, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder. Cook until the oil separates.
- Add the cubed potatoes and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the smoked fish (ngari) and mix gently. Cook for another 10 minutes.
- Add water as per desired consistency and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
