Ngari Bai Nariyal (fish Curry With Coconut Milk)

Ingredients

  • 500g fish, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3-4 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish pieces with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat mustard oil in a pan and fry the marinated fish pieces until golden brown. Remove and keep aside.
  3. In the same pan, add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
  5. Now, add the cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and turmeric powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  7. Pour in the coconut milk and bring it to a gentle simmer.
  8. Gently slide in the fried fish pieces and cook for another 5-7 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
