Ngari Bai Nariyal (fish Curry With Coconut Milk)
Ngari Bai Nariyal is a traditional fish curry with coconut milk from Tripuri Cuisine. This flavorful dish is a staple in Tripuri households and is perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 500g fish, cut into pieces
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3-4 green chilies, slit
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp mustard oil
Instructions
- Marinate the fish pieces with turmeric powder and salt. Set aside for 15 minutes.
- Heat mustard oil in a pan and fry the marinated fish pieces until golden brown. Remove and keep aside.
- In the same pan, add chopped onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
- Now, add the cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and turmeric powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Pour in the coconut milk and bring it to a gentle simmer.
- Gently slide in the fried fish pieces and cook for another 5-7 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
