Nigerian Shawarma

Ingredients

  • 4 large pita or flatbreads
  • 500g boneless chicken or beef, thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 large bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 4 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the mayonnaise and ketchup to make the sauce. Set aside.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until soft.
  3. Add the sliced chicken or beef to the pan. Season with curry powder, thyme, paprika, garlic powder, ginger powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until the meat is fully cooked.
  4. Warm the pita or flatbreads in a dry pan or oven.
  5. To assemble the shawarma, spread the sauce on the warmed bread, then add the cooked meat, onions, bell pepper, and shredded cabbage.
  6. Roll up the bread tightly, enclosing the filling.
  7. Secure the wraps with parchment paper or foil to hold them together.
  8. Serve the Nigerian Shawarma immediately and enjoy!
