Nile River Fish Tagine (طاجن سمك النيل)
طاجن سمك النيل (Nile River Fish Tagine) is a traditional Egyptian dish that is bursting with flavor and aromatic spices. This dish is perfect for a special occasion or a family gathering.
Ingredients
- 1 kg Nile River fish, cleaned and cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, diced
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 lemon, sliced
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Season the fish pieces with salt, pepper, and half of the minced garlic.
- In a tagine or large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and remaining garlic, and sauté until softened.
- Add the diced tomatoes, ground cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Cook for a few minutes until the tomatoes start to break down.
- Place the seasoned fish pieces on top of the tomato mixture. Add the water and arrange the lemon slices on top.
- Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.
- Sprinkle the chopped cilantro and parsley over the fish before serving.
