Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon (5g) salt
- 1 teaspoon (5g) sugar
- 1 cup (240ml) warm water
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) extra virgin olive oil
- 1 cup (240g) San Marzano tomatoes, crushed
- 8 ounces (225g) fresh mozzarella, sliced
- Fresh basil leaves
- Extra virgin olive oil, for drizzling
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar. Gradually stir in the warm water and olive oil until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes, then place it in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a kitchen towel. Let it rise for 1-2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to its highest temperature, preferably 500°F (260°C), with a pizza stone inside if available.
- Divide the dough in half and shape each portion into a round ball. On a floured surface, flatten and stretch each ball into a 10-12 inch (25-30cm) circle.
- Spread the crushed tomatoes over the dough, leaving a border for the crust. Arrange the mozzarella slices on top and add fresh basil leaves.
- Transfer the pizzas to the preheated pizza stone or a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil before serving.
