Ingredients
- 1 lb chicken, cut into pieces
- 1 cup dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 4 cups chicken broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the chicken from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the chopped onion and cook until softened. Add the minced garlic, diced tomatoes, cumin, paprika, and turmeric. Cook for a few minutes until the spices are fragrant.
- Return the chicken to the pot and add the soaked chickpeas and chicken broth. Season with salt and pepper. Bring the stew to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 1 hour, or until the chickpeas are tender and the chicken is cooked through.
- Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve the Nohutlu Toyuq hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
