Nom Pachok (cambodian Fish Cakes)
Nom Pachok is a popular Cambodian dish made from fish and spices. These fish cakes are flavorful, aromatic, and perfect for a light meal or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 1 lb white fish fillets, such as cod or tilapia, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 shallot, finely chopped
- 1 stalk lemongrass, finely chopped
- 1 red chili, finely chopped
- 1 tsp fish sauce
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1/4 cup green beans, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the chopped fish, garlic, shallot, lemongrass, red chili, fish sauce, sugar, salt, black pepper, cilantro, and green beans.
- Add the egg and cornstarch to the mixture and stir until well combined.
- Form the mixture into small patties and place them on a plate.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the fish cakes for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove the fish cakes from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Serve the Nom Pachok hot with a side of fresh salad or dipping sauce.
